Marlborough Street Childcare Centre
General Information
Marlborough Street Childcare Centre is owned by the Upper Hutt Child Development Trust. This trust was originally set up in 1991 to ensure that quality childcare services would always be available for children with special needs.
The centre is open from 7:30am - 5:30pm. Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays and a shut down period over Christmas/New Year.
Currently the Centre is licensed for up to 30 children including up to 15 under 2 year old children, although we aim to keep our Under 2 roll between 6-8 at any time. We still welcome children with special needs.
Our Staff
At present, we employ nine experienced childcare teachers; eight are fully qualified, and one very experienced unqualified part-time teacher. The centre has a commitment to training and the staff are encouraged to attend courses which will enhance their knowledge of early childhood education.
Kaiako have two Teacher Only days to be taken during each year, parents will be given at least six weeks notice before any Teacher Only days and we endeavour to have these in the school holiday period or attached to a long weekend.
At all times, there will be at least one qualified staff member on duty.
Our Programme
We endeavour to provide a programme that meets the educational needs of all the children attending the centre. We use Te Whāriki, the early childhood curriculum, as a basis for our planning. Small group activities for all children provide a time for one to one contact. Observations are carried out on the children to ensure that their needs are being met, and these form the basis of our programme planning.
We also operate a transition to school programme for our 4 year old children.
Administration
The Centre is administrered by a Board of Trustees, two of whom are original founding members of the trust. A management committee consisting of elected parents and staff oversee the day to day running of the centre. We also employ an Office Administrator.
